Tis the Season… for Acid Reflux

While it’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, it can be a different story if you have acid reflux or GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). Most holiday meals are minefields of acid triggering foods and the additional stress of the season can make your acid reflux symptoms even worse. So here’s a short list of foods to avoid and some easy tips to keep the holidays full of heart, sans burn.

Foods to leave off the plate:

  • fried foods
  • fatty foods
  • tomatoes
  • onions
  • garlic
  • citrus fruits
  • chocolate
  • certain spices like peppermint and red chili pepper
  • wine and coffee

Consider some of these suggestions from Everyday Health where a fellow acid reflux sufferer, Tania Cowling, reflects on her holiday dinner and coping with acid reflux:

  • eat smaller meals during the day instead of one larger meal
  • drink water with your dinner to wash down and neutralize stomach acid.
  • try to avoid lying down and napping – instead, take a walk around the block which may help you feel better. if you begin to feel heartburn coming on, stop it in its tracks with an antacid. make sure you give yourself at least three hours before you lie down for bed -try sleeping on your left side (the stomach will be lower, making it less likely for acid to rise), or better yet, on a sloped pillow or raised bed mattress – anything to minimize the backflow of acid into your esophagus at night is helpful

We couldn’t agree more with Tania, especially on the last note. Of course, instead of a sloped pillow or raised bed mattress, we highly recommend our MedCline reflux relief system which will keep you comfortably on your side while you sleep on an incline. (And, you won’t slide down and find yourself at the foot of your bed.)

But we’re a little biased.

Considering the stress of the season, we think cozying up with MedCline can also raise your spirits while reducing your acid reflux symptoms. Once you try it, you’ll know what we mean when we say it’s the ultimate reflux relief system.

And, it’s a thoughtful gift for you or someone you love. For a limited time, you can get an additional 10% off Medcline by using the promo code SLEEPTEN on Amazon.

Here’s wishing you a happy and acid-free holiday season.
