Frequently Asked Questions
How does MedCline work?
Anatomy and gravity play a significant role in how you reflux during the night. The advanced position - inclined + left side - created only by MedCline utilizes anatomy and gravity for maximum effectiveness. In this advanced position, your lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscles between your esophagus and stomach, is now positioned above the contents of your stomach making refluxing virtually impossible. Should stomach acid escape your LES into your esophagus, gravity will quickly return the refluxed content to your stomach, minimizing symptoms and potential damage to your esophagus.

Do I have to sleep on my left side?
MedCline is designed so that you can sleep on your left or right side. We recommend starting the night on your left side as the left has been clinically proven to be better for natural reflux relief vs. your right (or back). After falling asleep, you are able to turn as you naturally would from side to side throughout the night.
What if I can’t sleep on my side?
MedCline creates the advanced position that is clinically proven to be the most effective for natural reflux relief. This position in an inclined, side sleeping position. For those who are not naturally side-sleepers, the MedCline Therapeutic Body Pillow acts hold you on your side making the transition to this new sleep position easier. MedCline is not intended for back or stomach sleepers.
I don't have GERD or acid reflux. Will MedCline help with my back/shoulder/neck
MedCline is specifically designed for the treatment of nighttime acid reflux so we are confident that our sleep system will provide relief from nighttime reflux symptoms. We are hesitant to make claims for neck, back or shoulder pain as there is such a wide variety of potential causes for such pain and we are unable to predict whether MedCline will help with issues unrelated to GERD. For those with more severe injuries, such as herniated disks, fused vertebrae or arthritis, MedCline has been less successful in relieving pain.
How is MedCline different than a standard wedge pillow?
MedCline is specifically designed for the treatment of nighttime acid reflux and addresses the many pitfalls of standard wedges and risers. The advanced position created only by MedCline allows you to easily and comfortably sleep in the most effective position for natural reflux relief, the inclined + side sleeping position. If you have tried a wedge or head of bed elevation without much relief, here are some reasons to consider MedCline:
- Wedges and risers promote back sleeping, which can actually make reflux worse.
- Wedge do not prevent you from sliding down all night long.
- Wedges rarely elevate to a high enough angle for maximum relief.
- MedCline inclines your entire torso, not just your head and neck, which is necessary for gravity to keep acid in your stomach.
- MedCline is designed with a unique arm pocket to relieve pressure from your downside arm.
- Patented Cradle-Loc™ design of MedCline holds you in the ideal relief position without sliding down.
- MedCline is constructed with high quality foams tested to last at least 5 years.
In fact, independent studies compared MedCline head to head vs. a standard wedge and the results speak for themselves. MedCline was proven to be significantly more effective than a wedge and was rated twice as comfortable. Here are some study highlights:
- 93% reported a reduction in heartburn
- 89%reported a reduction in regurgitation
- 87% reduction of acid exposure in the esophagus
- 95% reported an improvement in overall sleep quality

Absolutely. Additional cases can be purchased from our buy page.
Can I purchase the Advanced Positioning Wedge alone?
We have heard from some customers that they prefer to sleep with their own familiar pillow, so we have recently made the Advanced Positioning Wedge available for purchase alone. Since the patented design of the wedge itself promotes inclined, side sleeping for those who are naturally side sleepers, the wedge alone often does the trick. For those who are not side sleepers or find themselves rolling to their backs, the Therapeutic Body Pillow acts to keep you in the desired side-sleeping position. The Advanced Positioning Wedge is recommended for those who prefer their own pillow, are naturally side-sleepers, tend to get hot during the night or are restless sleepers.
Can I purchase the Therapeutic Body Pillow alone?
Yes. We have recently made the MedCline Therapeutic Body Pillow available as an accessory. It can be added to our Advanced Positioning Wedge for extra comfort and side-sleeping support. We have also heard from customers that they have found our body pillow helpful for other medical conditions for which side sleeping is helpful, such as snoring, sciatica or pregnancy aches and pains.
